The Farnesina on the news regarding the appointment of a so-called ambassador “at large” of Abkhazia in Italy

With respect to the news reported by media outlets as to the activity conducted in Italy by a so-called Abkhazian ambassador “at large”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation would like to point out that Italy, in accordance with the EU position, does not recognize either the independence of Abkhazia, which is a region of Georgia, or the diplomatic representative or envoys of the so-called Abkhazian authorities. These individuals do not enjoy immunity or privileges according to the rules of national and international law.”
