A health care air transport of a critically ill Greek child from Athens to Rome was concluded this evening, as requested by Greek authorities yesterday.
A C130 aircraft of the Italian Air Force took off this morning from Pisa to reach the Elefsina military airport in Athens and then fly back to Ciampino in the evening.
The aircraft carried an ambulance and a medical team of the Bambino Gesu Children’s Hospital, which agreed to hospitalise and treat the child, who could not be cared for in Greece.
All this was made possible through the prompt cooperation between the Italian Air Force and its Greek counterpart, and also thanks to the support given by the Bambino Gesu’ Hospital and the Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre in Athens, and the cooperation between the Italian embassy to Greece and the Greek Embassy to Italy, and the Italian and Greek Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defence.
