Minister Alfano and the Farnesina express their condolences for the death of Ambassador Giacomelli

Minister Angelino Alfano and the entire staff of the  Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation express their condolences after the death of Ambassador Giorgio Giacomelli and extend their deepest sympathies to the family. 

Throughout his  30 years of service to the country with highly prestigious mandates, Giorgio Giacomelli served as an ambassador to Somalia and Syria. He was twice appointed Director General of Immigration and Social Affairs and of Development Cooperation. Mr Giacomelli also held the office of  General Commissioner of the United Nations for the Rescue and Employment of Palestinian Refugees, and Executive Director of the United Nations’ Vienna office for Drug and Crime Prevention. He was also Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.  

During this sad occasion, Minister Alfano and the staff of the MInistry would like to express their deepest sympathies to the Secretary General, Ambassador Elisabetta Belloni, and share her immense grief over the loss of her husband.
