EU: Minister Alfano in Brussels on Monday for the Foreign Affairs Council meeting

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, will be in Brussels on Monday, 15 May, to attend the EU Foreign Affairs Council. He is scheduled to arrive at the Europa Building around 9:25 a.m.

After the first working session, which will be opened at 9:30 a.m. by the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, the ministers will discuss the state of progress in the implementation of the “EU Global Strategy” in the area of security and defence. 

Discussions will also focus on issues connected to the Horn of Africa and special attention will be given to the political and security situation in the area around the Red Sea. 

Discussions will also extend to relations between the European Union and Africa in view of the EU-Africa Summit in November. 

At 1 p.m., Minister Alfano will attend an informal working lunch with the Chair of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki, before participating in the Council’s afternoon working session, when discussions will focus on the Eastern Partnership in view of the EU-Eastern Partnership Summit scheduled next 24 November in Brussels. 

On the sidelines of the afternoon working sessions, Minister Alfano will have a bilateral meeting with the British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson.
