During the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday 28 June, the assembly approved a motion put forward by the Farnesina which ratifies and implements 4 agreements with International organisations (IDLO, ICCROM, MFO and Council of Europe) already established in Italy, on terms which have now been renegotiated to meet their needs and extend their activities. The Council of Ministers has also ratified the founding charter of the International Energy Forum (IEF), based in Saudi Arabia.
“The presence, on national territory and specifically in Venice and Rome, of the four international organisations adds value to Italy’s cultural and economic promotion and innovation in terms of international prestige, but also acts as an engine for scientific research and the protection of cultural property (ICCROM), the promotion of human rights, the rule of law and cooperation activities (IDLO and Council of Europe) and the role Italy plays in supporting peacekeeping operations (MFO). Not to mention the positive effects on productivity over the years,” said the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
As for IEF membership, Alfano emphasised that “it is a major tool promoting dialogue on traditional energy sources between producing and consuming countries, and so is strategic for Italy.”
