“Great appreciation for the entry into force, today, of the arrangement between the United States, Russia and Jordan for a ceasefire in South-West Syria.
It is an important step towards a sustainable and durable stabilization of the area and a facilitation of humanitarian access, in the interest of the Syrian population and bordering countries.
While calling on Syrian parties and their backers to ensure that the ceasefire is seriously respected, we encourage US and Russia to continue their dialogue in order to consolidate the agreement and, possibly, extend it to other sensitive areas of the country, including in the framework of the fight against ISIL.
This is the only way to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian population and to create an environment conducive to a genuine political transition. In this context, we reiterate our support to the UNSE de Mistura’s efforts, with a view to the upcoming resumption of intra-Syrian negotiations in Geneva”.
