Alfano: “Italy does not, and never will, recognise the unilateral declaration of independence proclaimed by the regional Parliament of Catalonia.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano: “Italy does not, and never will, recognise the unilateral declaration of independence proclaimed today by the regional Parliament of Catalonia. It is indeed a very serious act outside the law. For this reason, we express our firm condemnation and, at the same time, the wish that a dialogue may be re-established in compliance with the Spanish Constitution, to spare the population escalating tensions, very incongruous with a united and strongly pro-European Country like Spain.”
