The Foreign Ministry urges the EU Member Countries to receive the migrants rescued and boarded on the ships of the Guardia di finanza and of Frontex

With reference to the almost 450 migrants rescued today by boats of the Italian Guardia di Finanza and of Frontex, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in close cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office, sent diplomatic notes to the Embassies of EU Member Countries urging their respective Governments to each receive part of the migrants.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, stated: “The initiative taken today by the Italian Government is particularly meaningful. The sending of the letters and the intense diplomatic activities undertaken in parallel are strong formal actions through which we are asking the top-ranking officials of EU institutions and the Governments of our partner Countries of the European Union to cooperate in tangibly fulfilling the commitments outlined in the text of the conclusions of last June’s European Council meeting.”
