“I am happy to confirm that Dr Francesco La Camera was elected Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) with a significant majority vote of 141 Member States,” said the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Enzo Moavero Milanesi, after hearing the voting results at the Agency’s annual General Assembly held in Abu Dhabi.
“The election of Dr La Camera to lead IRENA”, emphasised Minister Moavero, “is fruit of the coordinated efforts of the MATTM and the MAECI, which engaged Italy’s whole diplomatic network, and of a positive convergence at EU level. Moreover, it highlights the spearheading role played by Italy in the renewable energy sector, which combines energy security, environmental sustainability, economic growth and job creation, with the aim of assuring access to clean energy to as many people as possible.”
