Conference of Scientific Attachés 2019

Environmental protection, sustainable development and technological innovation are the focus of the Conference hosted at the Farnesina on 27 and 28 June, “Italian-speaking Marine Technologies and Innovation”, which has put together Italian Scientific Attachés abroad with representatives of Universities, businesses and research institutes, with the attendance of Minister Moavero Milanesi and of Minister Marco Bussetti.

The network of Scientific Attachés – coordinated by the Foreign Ministry – is an important instrument for the promotion of Brand Italy as it operates at the accreditation centres abroad to facilitate scientific and technological cooperation with other Countries and to provide support to Italian companies operating in advanced technology sectors.

Every year, the Conference of Scientific Attachés addresses a different topic. The theme chosen for the 2019 edition is extraordinarily important and topical: the development of marine technologies. The Conference will especially focus on the role of Italy in the Mediterranean area, with its great complexity, challenges and opportunities: cultural, political, technological and commercial. It is an area of intense trade, the sustainable exploitation and development of which interests the whole of Europe.

The two-day event dedicated to Scientific Diplomacy aims to stimulate a fruitful exchange of ideas between the major drivers of Italian innovation, both at home and abroad, so as to better coordinate the Country’s systemic promotion and investments in an area of crucial importance. Innovitalia 3.0, a platform operated by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and of Education, University and Research to disseminate information and to create networking opportunities for Italian research professionals and innovators abroad, in 2019 also launched a cooperation with Open Innovability (openinnovability.com). It is a crowdsourcing platform developed by ENEL to collect innovative solutions to meet the main challenges in the area of sustainable development, ranging from electrical mobility to seeking solutions in renewable energy sources, innovative proposals for distribution networks and climate change.

In the opening day of the event, Minister Moavero Milanesi will confer the two “Farnesina Awards” upon an eminent Italian researcher abroad and upon the founder of an Italian start-up based abroad.
