Undersecretary Di Stefano Conversation with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov

Today Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano had a video call with Turkmen Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov, with whom he discussed the revival of bilateral and regional cooperation during and after the health and economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his condolences for the Italian victims of the pandemic and his wish for a new start for Italy. Mr Meredov then called for a “scientific diplomacy” between the two countries, with the exchange of best practices on the fight against the virus.

Recalling the visit of Undersecretary Di Stefano to Ashgabat last November, the first Italy-Central Asia Conference held in December at the Foreign Ministry and the subsequent visit of Turkmen President Berdymuhammedov, Meredov and Di Stefano reaffirmed the excellent relations between the two countries, while at the same time hoping for a relaunch during 2020, through an increase in cooperation in the economic and cultural field.

“The Italy-Central Asia Conference is an excellent instrument of cooperation and should become a fixed appointment to be held alternately in Italy and in the countries of the region” Mr Di Stefano concluded.
