Minister Luigi Di Maio held a phone call today with his Spanish counterpart Arancha González Laya.
In their talks the two Ministers stressed the importance of the role the EU is called to play to foster stability in Libya, also through Operation IRINI.
The two Ministers also discussed the profound convergence between Italy and Spain with regard to migration policies. In particular, in view of the forthcoming Communication from the Commission on the “New Pact on Migration and Asylum”, they once again stressed their common commitment to ensuring that the document contains a balance between thesolidarity and responsibility of all Member States.
Finally, Mr. Di Maio e Ms. González Laya also tackled the issue of the European response to the COVID-19 emergency, expressing the expectation that the Commission may soon present an ambitious proposal regarding the Recovery Fund.
