The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia, Gordan Grlić Radman.
During the conversation, Minister Di Maio congratulated his counterpart on the six-month Presidency of the EU Council of Croatia that has just ended. In particular, he focused on the crucial achievements in the process of European integration of the Western Balkans, such as the opening of accession negotiations with Albania and Northern Macedonia, the adoption of the new methodology on enlargement to the Western Balkans and the opening of the last negotiating chapter with Montenegro. Recalling the remarkable legacy left by the Croatian Presidency represented by the EU-Western Balkans Summit on 6 May, the Minister reiterated Italy’s firm support for the European integration of the Western Balkans.
The two Ministers took stock of the excellent state of bilateral relations. They agreed on the importance of holding the next session of the Italy-Croatia Ministerial Coordination Committee, a forum for intergovernmental dialogue chaired by Foreign Ministers, soon, to further strengthen the intense bilateral economic cooperation also in the post-COVID recovery perspective.
