This morning the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, had a telephone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of the Republic of Kosovo, Meliza Haradinaj-Stubbla.

The conversation – the first after the inauguration of the new Executive in Prishtina – offered the opportunity to examine the various strands of bilateral cooperation, also with reference to COVID‑19 emergency, and to exchange views on the Belgrade-Prishtina dialogue.

Minister Di Maio, in expressing his willingness to strengthen the already positive partnership between the two countries, particularly in the economic sector, confirmed the Italian engagement in favour of Kosovo – proven by our contribution to KFOR mission – and assured that Rome will continue to support Prishtina in its process of institutional consolidation and to promote its integration in the Balkan region and in Europe.

Minister Di Maio also expressed his satisfaction for the cooperation started between the Ministries of Health of Kosovo and of Serbia to fight against Covid-19 thanks to Italian facilitation, sincerely hoping that it could continue.

In reaffirming Italy’s strong commitment to the action of EU Special Representative Lajčák, Minister Di Maio also favourably welcomed the resumption of dialogue between Belgrade and Prishtina within EU facilitation, pointed out that it is the only framework in which it is possible to reach a sustainable and lasting agreement guaranteeing the stability in the region.
