Note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Videoconference of Minister Di Maio with representatives of the main US Jewish Associations

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, participated today in a videoconference with representatives of the main US Jewish Associations, a traditional appointment on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, testifying to Italy’s solid relationship and attention to the Jewish world.

Minister Di Maio reiterated Italy’s strong commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism, which is a priority for Italy in the UN Human Rights Council. The Minister recalled that last January the Italian Government accepted the definition of anti-Semitism proposed by the IHRA (the International Alliance for Holocaust Remembrance). On this occasion, Italy has appointed a National Coordinator for the fight against anti-Semitism, Professor Milena Santerini, who chairs a special Working Group established at the Presidency of the Council.

Among the topics of the meeting, the prospects for the Middle East Peace Process following the signing of the Abraham Agreements. Minister Di Maio recalled Italy’s support for a just, sustainable, realistic, and directly negotiated two-state solution between the Parties.
