The hearing on the possible renewal of Patrick Zaki’s pre-trial detention was held today. The hearing took place regularly in the presence of the accused and his lawyers. An official of the Italian Embassy was also present, as part of the monitoring programme coordinated by the European Union. The outcome of the hearing is expected for tomorrow.
At the moment this is the only case that is constantly monitored by a group of foreign countries thanks to the Italian initiative. Recently, the Italian Foreign Ministry, through its Embassy in Cairo, has continued to sensitize the local authorities on the case, so as to facilitate the young student’sprompt release.
