Italy welcomes the appointment of Staffan De Mistura to the post of Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara.
While expressing the hope that the appointment will allow a breakthrough in the protracted stalemate in the UN-facilitated political process, Italy reiterates its call to the parties involved to commit themselves, without preconditions and in good faith, to resume negotiations in order to reach a shared political solution, in line with the principles of the UN Charter and the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
