The Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, spoke today at the ceremony of the Award named in memory of Ambassador Francesca Tardioli, aimed at recognising international best practices in the implementation of the United Nations Women, Peace and Security Agenda and chaired by Prof. Claudio Marchisio, Professor Emeritus of International Law at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’.
As Undersecretary Tripodi underlined, the Award testifies to the priority that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation attaches to the issues of women’s participation in negotiation processes, the protection of women and girls in conflict situations, strategic communication and training at all levels. She expressed the utmost satisfaction that the Award has been dedicated to the figure of Francesca Tardioli, “an exemplary professional who devoted much of her career to the promotion and protection of human rights, and was among the driving personalities behind Italy’s action in implementing the Women, Peace and Security Agenda”.
While thanking the organisers, Undersecretary Tripodi concluded that only with the full involvement of government, Parliamentary forces, universities and civil society organisations, especially women’s organisations, can the goals set by the United Nations – which, in turn, contribute decisively to international peace and security – be achieved,
