Presentation of the first report on roots tourism in Italy

PRESS RELEASE

Presentation of the first report on roots tourism in Italy

(Sala Aldo Moro, Palazzo della Farnesina, 17 November 2021, 12 noon)

Tomorrow, 17 November, at 12:00 noon, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Benedetto Della Vedova will present the publication “Primo rapporto sul turismo delle radici in Italia” [“First report on roots tourism in Italy”]. Produced with the contribution of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and edited by Professors Sonia Ferrari and Tiziana Nicotera of the University of Calabria, the report includes a series of papers on the research carried out in recent years by various scholars on the theme of roots tourism, including Professors Ana Biasone of the University of Mar Del Plata (Argentina) and Anna Lo Presti of the University of Turin, who will be speaking. The event will be moderated by Luigi Maria Vignali, the Director General for Italians Abroad and Migration Policies.

This initiative is part of the policy of promoting roots tourism, initiated by the Foreign Ministry when it convened the first dedicated technical meeting in 2018. The new report provides tangible guidelines for those who are responsible for tourism planning in the Italian regions, as well as for businesses and operators. It also offers numerous points of interest for the associations of Italians around the world, as well as for emigrants themselves and their descendants.

The event will also be live streamed on YouTube at https://youtu.be/FplBP3GO8HA.
