Presentation of the candidacy of Rome as the host city for World Expo 2030

JOINT COMMUNIQUE
MAECI (MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION) – MUNICIPALITY OF ROME – WORLD EXPO 2030 NOMINATION COMMITTEE

On Tuesday 14 December the 169th General Assembly of BIE (Bureau International des Expositions) took place in virtual mode. The delegates, representing the 170 member states, were present at the first presentation by the city of Rome to host World Expo 2030. On the same occasion, the other four candidate countries – Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Russia, and Ukraine – also presented their projects.

The Italian candidacy was presented by Luigi Di Maio, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Roberto Gualtieri, the Mayor of Rome; and Giampiero Massolo, President of the World Expo 2030 Nomination Committee.

The theme proposed for Expo Roma 2030 is “People and territories: urban regeneration, inclusion and innovation”.

Underlying this proposed theme is the need for a profound regeneration of the urban fabric, on the basis of a new model that places people, their needs and expectations, at the centre of a city that has the ability to reconcile innovation and beauty with sustainable and inclusive development.

The dedicated website on the Rome candidacy is available from today at www.romeexpo2030.com

The presentation of Rome’s candidacy is the first stage of a long campaign that will conclude at the end of 2023, when the BIE General Assembly will vote to designate the city to host the 2030 Universal Exposition.
