The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, is visiting today, on 9th July 2022, Singapore, a strategic country on the regional level with which Italy intends to strengthen bilateral relations, also in the light of the renewed impulse of the Italian and European initiative in the Indo-Pacific.
These issues will be at the center of the meeting Minister Di Maio will have with his Singaporean counterpart, Vivian Balakrishnan, with whom he will review the state of bilateral relation, paying particular attention toward economic and scientific-technological cooperation, sectors characterized by high added value which offer great opportunities to Italian enterprises.
Di Maio and Balakrishnan will also discuss the fight against climate change, collaboration within the Indo-Pacific area and with ASEAN, and the main regional crises.
With reference to the recent executions, Minister Di Maio will reiterate also the invitation to Singapore to apply a moratorium of capital executions, in line with Italian and international community efforts on this issue.
Morevoer, Minister Di Maio will attend the contract signature between ITA-Agency and the incubator Accelerating Asia, which includes services in favor of Italian startup within the scope of the ITA Global Startup Program.
Minister Di Maio will also visit the Italian enterprise Rimorchiatori Mediterranei, third global habor towage operator, which has recently acquired two Singaporean enterprises active in port logistics, becoming in this way the only foreign company to operate in the world’s second port.
Finally, there are scheduled meetings with scholars and Italian researchers from Singaporean universities and research institutes and with the President of Singaporean Economic Development Board (EDB), Mr. Beh Swan Gin, entity promoting investment opportunities and supporting foreign companies.
