Italy expresses deep concern for the riots underway in the Iraqi capital, during which people were killed and injured, and urges all the parties involved to resort to moderation, in order to swiftly prevent a dangerous escalation. The right to freely express one’s dissent cannot lead to violence and clashes.
It is necessary for all representative institutions to function properly, in accordance with the Iraqi Constitution and laws, in the interest of the entire population.
Italy hopes that all Iraqi political parties may resume a constructive dialogue and put an end to this phase of uncertainty, thus paving the way for a Government that is recognised and widely supported, which can offer the country security, stability and prosperity.
