Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Note

The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation reports that yesterday evening unknown persons smashed the window of the building where the Consulate General in Barcelona is located, defacing a wall at the building’s entrance.

Also yesterday, a car bearing a diplomatic licence plate belonging to a diplomatic official serving at the Italian Embassy in Berlin was set on fire.

Local police forces carried out the necessary forensic and police investigations. Luckily, nobody was injured as a result of either crime.

Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani, who was immediately informed of the situation, personally and immediately contacted the Italian Embassy in Berlin and the Consulate in Barcelona to express his solidarity. He also requested that full light be shed on the dynamics of the crimes as soon as possible. The Minister then ordered the immediate launch of procedures to verify and reinforce the security of the diplomatic buildings and staff involved.
