Today, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, held a telephone meeting with the new Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf.
While addressing the main current regional issues, Minister Tajani stressed the importance of Algerian-Italian cooperation for the stability and security of the Mediterranean. In this regard, he asked the Algerian Minister to work in close coordination to support Tunisia, facilitate national reconciliation in Libya and promote the stabilisation of the Sahel area. Tajani emphasised how important cooperation with Algeria is for Italy from a political, economic and security point of view, calling for a further consolidation of the already excellent bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Italy is determined to further develop the economic cooperation with Algeria”, remarked Tajani, “focusing in particular on innovative sectors such as agro-industry, biomedical technologies and digital infrastructures”. He also recalled the Italian government’s objective of turning Italy into an energy hub in the Mediterranean, also thanks to its privileged relationship with Algeria, Italy’s leading supplier of natural gas.
