Today, Monday 5 June 2023, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, had a telephone conversation with the Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nabil Ammar.
The new contact between the heads of the Italian and Tunisian diplomacies is part of the strategy of all-round dialogue and coordination between the two countries, first and foremost in view of the visit to Tunis by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, as scheduled for tomorrow.
Minister Tajani took stock with his counterpart of upcoming international events, also in view of the forthcoming visit to the United States, where the Italian Deputy Prime Minister will meet US Secretary of State Blinken and International Monetary Fund Director Georgieva. “On these forthcoming occasions too”, Minister Tajani confirmed, “Italy will convey the need for a clear commitment on the part of the international community in support of Tunisia, in full respect of its sovereignty and calibrating structural reforms to the social needs of the population”. Minister Tajani also thanked his interlocutor on cooperation on migration issues, calling for ever closer operational cooperation between the two governments to halt the illegal flows of migrants and put an end to human trafficking, highlighting Italy’s efforts in Brussels to ensure greater European support in the area of migration, including financial support.
