Undersecretary Giorgio Silli participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS, held in Riyadh, on behalf of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

In his address, the Undersecretary highlighted the importance of keeping international attention high on terrorist threats, confirming Italy’s commitment within the Coalition, in particular by co-chairing the groups on the African continent and on countering illegal financial flows. He then took part in a high-level event on West Africa, co-chaired by US Secretary of State Blinken and Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Faisal. During the meeting, he underlined Italy’s approach aimed at consolidating a firm partnership with African countries to guarantee security and stability through an integrated policy which also addresses the root causes of radicalisation and terrorism. Alongside the ministerial meeting, the Undersecretary held bilateral talks with the Foreign Ministers of Mauritania, Niger, and Yemen.

Undersecretary Silli also met with Saudi Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Al Sati, the Assistant Minister of Energy Ahmed Mousa Al Zahrani, and the President of the Saudi-Italian Business Council as well as with qualified stakeholders of the private and financial sectors, exploring the outlook for bilateral relations.
