Today the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, contacted his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita to offer his and the government’s condolences to the Moroccan people for the violent earthquake that struck the country in the night of 8-9 September.
The Deputy Prime Minister also reiterated Italy’s willingness to offer any form of humanitarian assistance, in particular by making emergency teams available to the Moroccan government, as well as assets to support the activities of hospitals and, more generally, anything that may be necessary to cope with the humanitarian emergency and to plan support activities for the Moroccan health structures damaged by the earthquake.
While keeping in touch with the Italian Ambassador to Morocco, Armando Barucco, Hon. Tajani is constantly following the developments of the situation, especially in relation to assistance activities for the Italians affected by the earthquake.
The Embassy in Rabat and the Consulate General in Casablanca, in liaison with the Crisis Unit and also thanks to the desk set up at the Marrakesh Airport, have so far provided support to over 500 compatriots.
