The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Edmondo Cirielli, and Ambassador Elchin Amirbayov, Special Envoy of the President of Azerbaijan Aliyev, met today at Farnesina to discuss the situation in Caucasus and the ongoing negotiations to address the Azerbaijan-Armenia crisis.
Cirielli restated Italy’s support to ensure territorial integrity to both Countries and encouraged Baku to commit to an effective dialogue with Yerevan and achieve durable peace. Cirielli also stressed the balanced and proactive role played by Italy, referring to the Italian commitment to assist Armenian and Azerbaijani refugees.
After praising the excellent level of bilateral relations, confirmed by the strategic partnership between Rome and Baku and the frequent visits of exchange, the Deputy Minister “strongly encouraged the continuation of the peace path for the mutual interests of Armenia and Azerbaijan”.
