Undersecretary of State Silli travelled to Quito to take part in the 2nd International Consensus Conference for Penitentiary and Citizen Security, organised by the Ecuadorian authorities and the European Union to take stock of the projects for strengthening prison security in a country recently hit by a sharp escalation of violence due to the actions of criminal gangs.
In this delicate and difficult situation, Undersecretary Silli wished to reaffirm Italy’s and Europe’s commitment in the fight against international crime , by supporting projects such as EL PAcCTO (Europe-Latin America Technical Assistance Programme against Transnational Organised Crime) and EURESP (European Union Emergency Response Programme to Strengthen the Prison System in Ecuador), and illustrating Italy’s example and the results achieved in the fight against organised crime.
During the visit, Undersecretary Silli was received by President Noboa and held bilateral meetings with Foreign Minister Sommerfeld; Defence Minister Loffredo; Trade and Production Minister Sonsoles Garcí; and State Attorney General Diana Salazar.
The talks focused on the revival of bilateral cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sector and productive investment between the two countries.
