The Director General for Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI) Alessandro De Pedys and the Italian Ambassador to Mongolia Giovanna Piccarreta today inaugurated the first exhibition of Caravaggio’s works in Mongolia at the Genghis Khan Museum in Ulanbataar. The event was attended by Mongolia’s Minister of Culture Nomin Chinbat.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the painting “Mary Magdalene in Ecstasy” and the several stages of its extensive restoration. This field is a key area of collaboration between one of Italy’s sectors of excellence and Mongolia.
The event is part of Italy’s cultural diplomacy efforts in Mongolia, which embrace sectors of cooperation such as the music, visual arts and cinema industries.
This cooperation aims at enhancing and disseminating the cultural heritage of both countries, strengthening mutual understanding and the exchange of expertise in the wake of the 55th anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic relations, to be celebrated next year.
