G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting – Minister Tajani’s meeting with Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Mary Ng

On the sidelines of the G7 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Villa San Giovanni and Reggio Calabria, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, had a fruitful exchange of views with Canada’s Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Mary Ng. The topics discussed during the meeting included the Italy-Canada Roadmap for enhanced cooperation and the resolution of remaining trade issues in order to deploy the full potential of bilateral trade.

Minister Tajani said: “Our bilateral relations are excellent.” Hoping to attract new Canadian companies interested in investing in high value-added sectors of our economy, such as space, AI and green technologies, he added: “In a period of geopolitical turmoil, Canada remains a strategic economic partner for Italy, favoured by the complementarity of our industrial bases.”

The Ministers stressed the importance of continuing to work in the wake of the Italy-Canada Roadmap for Enhanced Cooperation, launched by Prime Minister Meloni and Prime Minister Trudeau in Rome last March. He concluded:”We are determined to lay the foundations for a renewed and dynamic partnership, capable of making both countries grow by providing opportunities for further synergies and the pursuit of shared goals, including at global level, also in view of the future transition between the Italian G7 Presidency and the Canadian one in 2025.”
