On behalf of the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, is in Brasilia to participate in the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting.
The agenda includes discussions on the role of trade policies in environmental sustainability and global development, strengthening Foreign Direct Investment to promote sustainable development, particularly in developing countries, expanding opportunities for women in international trade, and the reform and enhancement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the multilateral trading system.
During the meeting, the Undersecretary emphasised the importance that Italy attaches to the multilateral trade system and the WTO, stressing the need to ensure equal access to markets. In this regard, she pointed out that market distortions are always a loss for everyone, and only in an efficient and transparent economic and trade environment can development be both sustainable and fair.
In this context, she also highlighted the importance of trade in promoting sustainable development across its three dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. Regarding the social dimension, she thanked Brazil for giving significant attention and importance to the role of women in international trade. On the sidelines of the meeting, the Undersecretary held a series of bilateral meetings with Spain’s Secretary of State for Trade, Maria Amparo López Senovilla, France’s Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and French Nationals Abroad, Sophie Primas, and Germany’s State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Udo Philipp.
