Rome. Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Silli attends the conference “Rediscovering Central America and the Gran Caribe”

Today, Italian Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli took part in the conference “Rediscovering Central America and the Gran Caribe: Future Opportunities” at the Guglielmo Marconi University in Rome.

“The Italian government is strongly committed to re-launching political dialogue with Central America – an area of the world to which so many Italians have emigrated in the past, with which we share fundamental values and principles, such as the fight against crime as well as compliance with human rights and the rule of law,” said Silli. “Italy intends to strengthen economic cooperation with these countries within the framework of growth diplomacy, thus fostering mutual development and creating synergies in strategic sectors such as technology and ecological transition,” the Undersecretary continued. “However, we can also work together fruitfully in the area of culture, leveraging Italy’s enormous cultural heritage,” Silli concluded.

The conference was also attended by the Rector of the Marconi University, Marco Abate, the Secretary General of the Italian-Latin American Institute, Antonella Cavallari, the Director General for Country Promotion at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mauro Battocchi, the Deputy Director General for Global Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Laura Carpini, together with experts in the sector, to discuss the political, economic and cultural opportunities and prospects of the partnership between Italy and Central America, in the presence also of representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Rome.
