Together with Italian Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Edmondo Cirielli, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani and Italian Minister of Defence Guido Crosetto have opened at the Farnesina the second Italian Forum on Export Control, dedicated to the defence sector.
“The Defence sector is one of the spearheads of the Italian economy and is also an engine of innovation, research and development that generates a positive impact on other strategic sectors,” said Tajani, who highlighted the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ commitment to strengthening the interplay between the public and private sectors, at a time when international competition is more intense and global challenges are legion.
“The public sector must continue to play an active role in defining responsible export policies – an issue which the Italian government is strongly committed to,” said the Minister in the presence of over 200 guests, including many representatives of companies in the sector.
The Forum was organised by the National Authority for Export Control of Armament and Dual-Use Materials at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation together with AIAD, the Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defence and Security, with the aim of enhancing the strategic role played by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in these fields and promoting the expertise of Italian industry and technology.
The proceedings were divided into four segments, devoted respectively to the control of arms exports in the evolving geopolitical context; to the Italian defence industry as an engine of economic growth; to the opportunities offered by the European Defence Fund; and to national, European and international technical-regulatory aspects connected with the export of arms materials. The Forum was attended by representatives from the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Italian Ministry of Defence, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, and leading companies in the sector.
