Violence against women: a “Red Bench” at the G7 in Fiuggi-Anagni

A red bench will be unveiled at the G7 meeting in Fiuggi. Once again this year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is participating in the international mobilisation campaign on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani has chosen to bring this issue to the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Fiuggi-Anagni.

Tomorrow, 25 November, during the ministerial meeting, a “red bench” will be inaugurated to honour the memory of women who have been victims of violence and their lost lives. A commemorative plaque will be unveiled by the attending Foreign Ministers at the Fiuggi Municipal Theatre, whose façade will be lit up in orange for the occasion.

This initiative underscores the attention Italy, as the G7 Presidency, has dedicated to the issue of preventing and combating violence against women and girls, particularly in the many conflict zones where sexual violence is also used as a weapon of war.

Tajani stated: “Italy must take a leading role in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. We must do everything in our power to prevent and combat all forms of discrimination and violence against women.”
