Minister Tajani once again chaired a meeting this morning on the situation in Syria with the Italian Ambassadors in Middle Eastern countries, following the capture of Damascus by rebel groups. In particular, Tajani received updated information from the Italian Ambassador in Damascus, Stefano Ravagnan, regarding the situation of Italian personnel and nationals still present in the country. “I would like to thank Ambassador Ravagnan for his assistance to Italian nationals and for the constant and precise updates we receive regularly, which are also shared with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defence,” Minister Tajani stated.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister also had a phone conversation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during which he reiterated the request to ensure the safety of Italian citizens and the protection of Christians and other minorities. Fidan expressed appreciation for Italy’s diplomatic presence in Damascus and reiterated Turkey’s willingness to collaborate with Italy to ensure stability in the Middle East and preserve Syria’s unity.
