Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Giorgio Silli carried out an official mission to Jamaica and the Bahamas for a series of institutional meetings with representatives from the governments of both Caribbean states.
In Jamaica, the Undersecretary held meetings with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kamina Johnson Smith, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Aubyn Hill, and met with the Chairman of the Port Authority, Ambassador Gordon Shirley.
In Nassau, Silli was received by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology, acting as the Foreign Minister, Glenys Hanna Martin, along with the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jerusa Léa Ali. He also held bilateral meetings with the Minister for National Security, Wayne Munroe, and the Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, Latia Duncombe.
“With my visits to Jamaica and the Bahamas, countries that have not had an Italian institutional presence for several years, I have highlighted the renewed attention of the Government towards the Caribbean region and CARICOM, as also confirmed by my recent stops in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana,” commented the Undersecretary. “Our goal is to establish a systematic, innovative, and broad political dialogue, to strengthen economic and trade relations and intensify existing collaborations in areas of mutual interest such as the fight against transnational organised crime and the battle against climate change,” concluded Silli.
