Following yesterday’s meeting with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi, Minister Antonio Tajani today met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the Director General of the IAEA, Rafael Grossi, who are in Rome to take part in the second round of talks between the United States and Iran.
The initial US-Iran talks on the nuclear programme took place in Muscat on 12 April, hosted at Minister al-Busaidi’s residence. The organisation of this second round of talks has been made possible thanks to Oman’s mediation and the facilitation provided by the Italian Government.
Italy has worked to promote dialogue between the parties in a calm and productive environment.
During the meetings, Minister Tajani expressed his hope that these talks may give a strong boost to contacts between the US Administration and the Iranian Government in the search for a diplomatic solution, which is essential for the stability of the Middle East. He also reaffirmed Italy’s willingness to support the continuation of the talks, including at the technical level.
