The two Italian nationals participating in the Land Flotilla and currently being held in Libya appeared today before the Libyan Public Prosecutor, who ordered the continuation of their pre-trial detention until the next hearing. The Consul General in Benghazi has submitted a new formal request for consular access to the two Italian citizens.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Embassy of Italy in Tripoli and the Consulate General in Benghazi continue to closely follow the case in coordination with the local authorities, with the aim of securing the earliest possible return of the nationals to Italy. The families of the Italian nationals have been informed of the detention status and of the diplomatic steps taken to ensure their protection and assistance.
