The meeting of the Global Alliance on the Two-State Solution will begin this afternoon at the Farnesina; it will continue tomorrow morning with a high-level session co-chaired by Minister Tajani and the Saudi Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and attended by the Palestinian Authority ‘s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Varsen Aghabekian, and the US Senior Advisor to the Board of Peace, Aryeh Lightstone. The two-day event will conclude tomorrow afternoon with a closed-door session dedicated to interfaith dialogue.
This afternoon’s session is being attended by around 30 technical-level delegations, including the co-chairs of the eight working groups of the New York Conference and other countries actively involved in the matter. The meeting will be addressed remotely by the High Representative for Gaza, Nickolay Mladenov, who has been tasked with coordinating the transitional governance, reconstruction and implementation of the 20-point Peace Plan for Gaza.
The aim of today’s session is to take stock of the progress made in implementing the New York Declaration, whilst exploring new avenues for cooperation to support the peace process through the implementation of UN Resolution 2803 and the Board of Peace.
The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was established in 2024 at the initiative of Saudi Arabia, Norway and the European Union. The Alliance’s work, which focused on identifying guiding principles and proposals for implementing the Two-State Solution, culminated in the New York Declaration, the final document of the Conference on the Peaceful Resolution of the Palestinian Question and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia on 28–30 July 2025. Italy played a leading role in the Conference and in the negotiations on the Declaration, as co-chair – alongside Indonesia – of the Working Group on Security.
