Mission of Deputy Minister Cirielli to Brussels

Missione del Vice Ministro Cirielli a Bruxelles

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, travelled to Brussels today on an official visit to meet with the Executive Committee of the Italian Initiative Group (Gruppo di Iniziativa Italiana, GII). The Group brings together the main trade associations, major industrial groups, banks, businesses, research bodies and universities, Regions, Autonomous Provinces and the Italian Chamber of Commerce system.

“The GII is a vital link between our businesses and the European Union. Our aim is to foster collaboration here in Brussels between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the diplomatic network, Italian Trade Agency, SACE, SIMEST, CDP, trade associations and businesses, to boost the competitiveness of our companies,” said the Deputy Minister. Cirielli then reiterated the importance of involving leading Italian organisations in the field of development cooperation as well, in the implementation of high-impact projects in partner countries.

The Deputy Minister also took part in a conference at the European Parliament on the challenges, opportunities and prospects relating to artificial intelligence within the EU, emphasising the need for the Union to combine market, research, industry and a human-centred approach in order to compete with the major technological powers whilst safeguarding democratic institutions. Cirielli concluded by highlighting Italy’s commitment – as one of the first countries to have effectively transposed the European regulatory framework in this sector – to regulating AI.
