A technical-level Foreign Affairs and Defence meeting of the Moldova Core Group took place today in Rome, organized by Italy to strengthen international coordination in support of Moldova. Opened by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Edmondo Cirielli, the meeting brought together representatives from Moldova, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Discussions focused on the main challenges to the country’s security and stability, as well as prospects for cooperation.

As the Deputy Minister recalled, within the framework of excellent bilateral political relations, Italy firmly supports Moldova and its European integration path. Through ongoing dialogue with Moldovan authorities and concrete cooperation initiatives, Italy supports the reform program undertaken by Moldova and helps promote security, development, and opportunities for the Moldovan population.

The first session addressed Russian hybrid threats .- with particular attention to cyberattacks and the use of drones – as well as the evolving political and humanitarian situation in Transnistria. A second session delved into the issue of Moldova’s energy security – an area where Italy is actively involved through development cooperation initiatives, having allocated €34 million over the past two years to projects aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience and reducing its energy vulnerability.
