Once again this year, the Consulate General in Bahia Blanca took part in the UN’s international campaign to eliminate violence against women and children, with a cycle of five conferences that concluded at the Consulate on 25 November. The meetings dealt with violence towards women in its unfortunately multiple aspects – physical, psychological, and at the workplace – as well as with the themes of the new education starting from schools.
Businesswomen and faculty presidents, Italian immigration representatives, councillors for social and gender policies, and women members of the local legislative council all gave their own testimony.
At the final event, Consul General Nicola Bazzani spoke about the priority importance that Italy gives to this issue, as also emerged at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Fiuggi and Anagni this past 25 and 26 November (read this link for the final communiqué). On the sidelines of the ministerial meeting, Antonio Tajani, Vice-President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs, inaugurated, with his G7 counterparts at Fiuggi’s Teatro Comunale, a “red bench” symbolizing the struggle against gender violence. The Consul also promoted fundraising for the Bahia NGO “Creer Si,” founded by Clelia Severini, which is among the organizations most committed to preventing crimes of violence and sexual abuse and assisting their victims.
The Consulate’s main salon, lit up in orange, also displayed the women-focused works of the Italian/Argentine artist Ileana Ceratto, in addition to showcasing the red bench inaugurated this past 27 September.
