The Italian Cultural Institute of London is delighted to support the light sculpture “We Rise By Lifting Others”, created by Marinella Senatore and inspired by the Southern Italian tradition of luminarie (traditional festive lights).
The artwork is part of “Winter Light”, an outdoor exhibition (on display until 2 February), free to visit and showcasing light-based works by ten contemporary artists. These pieces creatively use light and colour, while addressing crucial issues in contemporary society, such as individual and collective identity, the environment, and technology.
Marinella Senatore’s work was crafted in Apulia. The artist places social connections at the heart of her creations, focusing her research on activation and highlighting the power of art to foster both individual and collective emancipation. Speaking about her work with light, Senatore explains: “It can be a tool for storytelling and poetic creation, as well as for resistance and cohesion.”
