As part of the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo’s death  (1324-2024) and the 770th anniversary of his birth (1254-2024), the exhibition Real and Imaginary Lands. China and Marco Polo: A Tale of Books took place at the Shanghai Library East (open until 28 February). The event was attended by the Consul General of Italy in Shanghai, Tiziana D’Angelo, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute of Shanghai, Francesco D’Arelli, the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Library, Yang Chunhua, and the Director General of the Shanghai Library, Chen Chao.

The exhibition was organised with the support of the Consulate General of Italy in Shanghai, the Institute of the Enciclopedia Italiana-Treccani, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, the Biblioteca Medicea Laurenziana, and the Biblioteca Riccardiana. The display includes 131 documents, outlining the history of the translation and dissemination of Marco Polo’s Il Milione in China. The work is showcased and celebrated in its manuscript, printed book and digital format.
