As part of the series of events dedicated to Andrea Palladio, organised in Beijing by the Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute, the exhibition ‘Chinese Voices on Palladio. From Classical Architecture to Contemporary Experiment’ was recently opened at the Tsinghua University Art Museum. The exhibition is organised by the Polytechnic University of Turin in collaboration with Tsinghua University, with the support of the Treccani Encyclopaedia Institute and the Nuova Artemarea Association.
The project is an example of academic collaboration and cultural dialogue centred on a key figure in world architecture. It also marks a continuity with the exhibition ‘Geometria, armonia e vita. L’architettura di Andrea Palladio dall’Antico al Classico’ (Geometry, Harmony and Life. The architecture of Andrea Palladio from the Ancient to the Classical), which opened last February at the National Museum of China and attracted over 550,000 visitors.
The exhibition ‘Chinese Voices on Palladio’ shifts the focus from the historical to the contemporary. The exhibition is, in fact, structured as a dialogue on the relationship between Palladio’s theoretical and design legacy and Chinese architectural thought, featuring fourteen internationally renowned Chinese architects.
