The World Bank, Business Opportunities for Italian companies. Meeting at the Farnesina
To enhance the dissemination of information and participation of Italian companies in the procurement-related business opportunities offered by major international institutions, the Farnesina today hosts the meeting entitled “Business Opportunities for Italian companies with the World Bank Group”. It is a sector of great interest if we think that the World Bank finances approximately 6,000 contracts a year (relative to civil works, the supply of goods and the provision of consultancy services) for a total of 20 billion dollars. The sector also offers a large margin for improvement. In 2017, Italy ranked 25th (down from 16th place in 2016) in the adjudication of WB contracts, winning 38 contracts worth approximately 72 million.
The event, which will see the participation of the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Simest, will present to Italian companies the business opportunities offered by the World Bank Group (WBG). Experts of the World Bank and of the IFC will illustrate the procurement sector, its procedures and the operational means of procuring goods and services to the WBG in its different sectors of activity. Another issue on the agenda is that of the financial instruments to support the internationalisation of Italian companies through projects implemented in emerging Countries, with the direct testimony of companies that have already acquired experience in WBG procurement and co-financing.
The presentation will open with remarks by the Foreign Ministry’s Director General for the Cultural and Economic Promotion and Innovation, Vincenzo De Luca, the Director General for Development Cooperation, Giorgio Marrapodi, and by the Desk Officer of the World Bank Group at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Paolo Cappellacci.
Today’s event is part of the series of initiatives organised by the Foreign Ministry to boost the capacity of Italian companies to participate in international tenders, such as the meeting organised last October on the procurement opportunities of UN Agencies, especially in Rome and Geneva, and the “In gara con noi – Tenderlab” project that is scheduled to be illustrated in several Italian cities this May.
