Textile industry: Scalfarotto at the inauguration of Milano Unica

Today, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Ivan Scalfarotto, attended the inauguration of Milano Unica, with the President of ICE-Agenzia, Carlo Ferro. This is a key event for the textiles and accessories sector, attended every year by over 400 exhibitors, about 20% of which from abroad.

“Fashion is one of the pillars of the Italian economy and is the second largest export item. Trade fairs like Milano Unica serve as a showcase for trade, as well as for innovation and development. For several years now, the organisers have chosen to change the calendar of the event, with two shows in February and July, enabling the sector as a whole to anticipate buyer trends. A smart decision, which has enabled Italy to be consistently ahead of our main competitors.”

The Undersecretary then emphasised the environmental impact of fashion, which is the focus of the 30th edition of Milano Unica. “Sustainability is no longer a choice or a problem, but a brand new issue. The circular economy may become a panacea for a country like Italy, which lacks raw materials. Our Government must encourage responsible innovation by enterprises, through a system of incentives and tax relief.”
