Mr Di Stefano, interview with Uzbek Vice-Minister Asadov

As part of a series of telephone contacts with his Central Asian counterparts, today Undersecretary Manlio Di Stefano had a telephone conversation with Uzbek Deputy Foreign Minister Sherzod Asadov.

At the centre of the conversation the topics of international cooperation to counter COVID-19, with particular reference to the ongoing trials to find a vaccine that, according to the Undersecretary, should be “available at cost prices for the highest number of people” as well as bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on the political and economic dimension.

The excellent political relations that bind Italy to Uzbekistan will be further strengthened by a series of future high-level appointments, currently being prepared, in particular the visit to Italy by Uzbek President Mirziyoyev. Among these, the second Italy-Central Asia ministerial meeting, in the 1+5 format, which could take place in Uzbekistan when the situation permits, was also discussed.

The meeting stressed the complementarity of the economic systems in the two countries, with interesting prospects for our enterprises in Uzbekistan, particularly for the development of industry, agriculture and health sectors.
