Del Re participated in the VTC of the Development Ministers’ Contact Group

Vice Minister, in her speech, highlighted the need to maintain education as an absolute priority of cooperation programmes and economic policies in developing countries to counter the effects of the pandemic. “Education will be one of the development priorities of the Italian presidency of the G20 in 2021” – announced Del Re. “Italian cooperation focuses on universal access to quality education and gender equality, which, not only has a powerful impact on economic growth but creates benefits for the whole society”.

“Education is the key to ensuring the resilience of girls and boys, even those affected by humanitarian crises. Uneducated young people are more exposed to radical political and religious propaganda and less likely to develop the skills they need to build a future in their own countries,” she continued. “Therefore, we must increase our efforts on the ground to rehabilitate school infrastructure and find ways to provide education where infrastructure is lacking.

“The education component” – concluded Del Re – “should increasingly be part of humanitarian aid programmes. Italy is ready to play a role in the awareness of how crucial education is in emergencies as the cornerstone of resilient societies”.
